Depends where you are....
Locally, one of the storage yards had tons of hitchs, even plain jane $50 buck non WD, were taken if not locked down.
Police said flea market stuff and can attest to seeing tables and tables of "little" truck/towing/offroading/etc stuff that even looked like new going for $10-$20 bucks.
Sad to say it, but there are low lifes even low enough to steal this kind of stuff.
I'd remove and lock up (and do when still had the boat in that yard). Could always tell when someone lifted the cover to peek. Paid the guys across the yard at the gas/wash station to box of doughnuts each time took out or put in the boat.
