If you want to try using the 93 octane setting for towing (don't push too far if you hear detonation) I suggest doing these things:
Cooling system working perfectly (as detailed earlier). 165 or 180 stat
Change fuel filter every 1000 gallons and at beginning of trip. Air filter new or cleaned.
Run some GM top engine cleaner through the engine just before the next oil change. Vortec with closed chamber heads has small quench clearance and this area is subject to carbon buildup.
Take a bottle of Octane boost along in case it must be operated before less agressive programming can be installed.
