04 Yukon XL 2500 with 8.1 and 1000 miles. Great power, great brakes, great ride, but 20psi oil pressure at warm idle. I do my own service, but I figured a 1st oil change on record would be good for future warranty work as well as look into the oil pressure. Dealer states the 10 psi per 1000 rpm is normal. Well, its not normal in my opinion. I have had and still run vortecs with >140,000 miles that never drop below 35psi hot at idle and pump out 45 to 55 psi at 2000 rpm. Dealer stated that with a mechanical guage the pressure is really 35psi at idle. The paper work says they replaced the oil pressure sending unit, plus the oil changed.
Dash oil guage still indicates 20psi at idle. Shouldn't the guage be accurate to +/-5psi? I think it may be time to run my own test, where is the sending unit on this engine? I have not received the shop manuals yet. Any opinions on acceptable oil pressures for this "re-engineered" motor? Thanks to all in advance
