I have the same truck and pull 3000-3500 lbs boat.
I did add aftermarket oil and tranny cooler, suggested from the boys on this board, and it definetly runs cooler.
Synthetic everywhere except tranny.
Flush Tranny at least every 20,000.
E rated tires made a BIG difference.
Haul the boat from mid Mass to Cape Cod. (1 to 2 Hours)
and does well. I drive it from 60 to 65 on flat ground
and don't push it on the hills.
Definetly NO overdrive!!!!!!
Honestly, if I were to do it again I would run 3.73's
Keep it under 65 and don't push it on the hills and you should be ok.
Been making the trip for 3 seasons and no trouble yet.
Good luck

: I just purchased a 96 K1500 with 3.42's, it a 4x4.
: I plan on towing my race car with it. Total weight should be about 4700lbs (car+trailer).
: The manual states that that the max trailer is 5500lbs.
: What do you guys think ?
