We get these tractors on the road driving at night or nearly so with no tail lights except a single small white bulb - I darn near hit one. Also they are on the road with overfilled wagons of unsecured bales, ready to fall off and go under your car, causing loss of control. These events happen most in the fall. I call them "killer tractors".
: I usually pull off to the side and let them go by in a two-way highway. Keeping the distance leads to longevity. If I am feeling a bit ornery, I may tap the brake pedal to light up the lights - that wakes them up! (Don't do this too much anymore}
: : I still have yet to understand why people only allow, maybe, one car length between them and the car in front of them....travelling at 75 MPH. It seems it doesn't matter to them if the speed is 25 MPH or 75 MPH, they must keep the same distance.
: : FYI, it takes longer to stop at 75 than at 25!!
: : I usually give that group extra space in front of me because when the accident happens, I need to steer around all 5 cars that end up in the accident chain.
