Was backing out of the drive tonight and there was a big thump - sounded like I ran over something - and then we had no reverse or forward gears. As I put it into part, I could here the grind of the park gear - so I think the transmission is OK. I put it in 4 hight and it all enganged and I had both forward and reverse.
I'm thinking the transfer case is going out. I did notice a funny sound starting yesterday - sounded like an exhaust rattle - but directly under the post between the doors.
Help! If it is the transfer case going out. Is that something I can replace myself? Are they expensive? What else could it be?
