There is a heavy cable to the starter, #2 cable. There will be a power feed to the fuse and relay center, #4 or #6 wire, and a wire to the alternator stud, #10 or #8 with fusible link.

It is a PIA and that's why a few bucks at a shop can be a good deal. The cable isn't cheap either.

There's no good way to replace the cable end that I know of except maybe the gold plated style compression connectors that car audio places use. I experimented with these and finally switched to top terminal. Soldered the cable ends into the terminator with propane. I gave one to Steve G and he used it successfully, tho I haven't seen how it turned out. I found that even with the improved end, if the cable didn't exit the battery between 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock positions, vibration would work the bolt loose.

You can try cleaning the terminal as-is every 2 or 3 months to see how bad of a problem you have.

Has the idle speed been fixed?
