That's a good possibility. If this Jeep has the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder, they are known to develop exhaust leaks at the manifold. Sometimes a holddown bolt breaks, and I've seen several manifolds crack where the runners join into a 'Y'.
: You aren't possibly smelling the cat converter (exhaust) and have a fuel problem?
