Also did the staple trick. Worked for 3 years (until I replaced the roof). Never lost a staple, but you will get nervous with the windows down and slack material flapping in the wind. Found a jy headliner for under $30.

If you want to 'fix' it, you will need to pull the headliner, strip it down to the cardboard (or what ever you want to call the base), clean it with a solvent to get rid of all pad material, find new pad material, and find new cloth. 3M has adhesive (#76 or #77, read the can, 1 is better than the other, depending on material). It is best to have 2 people, as the adhesive is very tacky and you will need to be very accurate on placing the material to avoid waves, wrinkles and 'glue globs'. I have done 2 of thes in car restorations, and didn't have fun either time. Although, they did turn out very nice.

The Sub headliner in a Silverado is thick (insulating and noise deadening). If you can find it, a jy might have the thin pad in the same color you are looking for. The thin pad rarely falls and is easy to work with. I found one of these and installation took around an hour (use a 3.6v driver). 2nd set of hands will help.

Good Luck,
Roger
