Battery questions… Traveler you have some experience in rewiring battery stuff. Welcome all input.
I have this fifth wheel trailer. Currently have three “house” batteries. We do a lot of dry camping where we have no electricity. Running a generator seems like an oxymoron with camping = peace & quiet. So if we are dry camping for some time, naturally the batteries wear down. When we are camping seems like we are always taking the truck to do sightseeing, shopping (Mrs. Stan always has to go shopping.. genetic / gender thing). My idea is to add two additional batteries behind the rear wheel wells in the truck bed isolated by a solenoid switch when engine is off. The concept being batteries would be charged as a result of us driving around. When camped, the batteries would run in parallel with the trailer's house batteries giving me long lasting power as long as I drive to the store, etc. Most power consumed when we are at the trailer.
Questions:
Does this concept sound workable, good idea?
What gauge wire should I run from the engine
Where should I hook up at the engine?
Big question.. Suggestions on type of connector to go from Trailer to truck?
Hope you can add some light
Regards,
Stan
