All the hypocritical, myopic whining about SUV's will eventually come to an end. I've always felt you could break every issue down to 3 basic groups: 25% that fully support, 25% that disagree no matter what, and the other 50% will go with the flow. Right now, I think the disagreeing 25% is exploiting otherwise vacant airtime. Eventually, the other 75% will continue making the world go round.

When considering an auto, I prioritize 1) utility, 2) "fun to drive" factor, 3) style. Given that SUV's get lousy mileage, and are not near the top in terms of handling, I would rather have a sporty car. But, with 3 kids, Boy Scouts, a boat, camping, etc., I need more utility for more people.

I suggest you decide what YOU want; what are YOUR prioritizations. If you want to go off-road, if you plan to tow, if you need to carry a BUNCH of stuff, a Suburban is GREAT! If you want to xtreme off-road, a Jeep might be better. If you want to autocross, you don't want a Suburban. If "style" is a high priority, and you like SUV style, get an SUV. Why get an SUV for normal commuting and nothing else, and suffer the mileage costs? Why get a sports car if you won't be able to join your friends for that camping trip in the mountains?

As long as you know why you got what you did, you should be happy. Don't get something for reasons you can't explain.

: I'm thinking about getting an SUV but with all the recent attacks on how they are polluting, wasteful, and stupid, I'm starting to wonder how this will impact resale values down the road. Given that I would only be using it for running errands, should I re-consider and purchase a car instead? Many of my friends have been encouraging me to get a car instead.

: What do you guys think?
