1996 K1500 Suburban, 5.7L, 152K. I have an exhaust leak on the bank 2 catalytic converter. Basically the cat case has separated from the "in" tube, and along the forward longitudinal seam. I have the dual cat "Y"-pipe setup, which also includes four O2 sensors (two pre-cat, two post-cat). Is there any hope of salvaging the $%&# thing. Can I weld the seam, using stainless? Could I buy a universal cat, cut and weld it into place? Or do I need to replace the whole thing? If R&R is the best path, do any of you have any reccomendations on where to purchase the Cat assy? I think GM is close to $750 for it, ouch!
