A friend of mine has a 2003 Chevy truck with the 5.3L. He's having a problem where, while running the air conditioning (the truck also has the fully automatic a/c where you set the desired temp) the A/C compressor suddenly disengages, and the air quickly turns warm/humid. It seems to happen if the truck's been driven for a while, and then stops at a long red light. Compressor doesn't seem to come back again until driven again for 5 minutes or so.
Is the clutch on the compressor designed to disengage if underhood temps get too high?
