I think you are OK Using the Sideposts for general application. I replaced all of my side terminal battery bolts with a nicer brass stud from Wrangler NW (http://www.wranglernw.com/commerce/ItemDetail.asp?ItemNo=34%2D910S) I seem to remember the Optima having a few more threads (read deeper hole) than the AC/Delco Factory units. I may have also used a brass washer or two, as I am all too familiar with the bottoming issue.

So, I am not really sure about the bottoming issue. I only used the two factory cables to the side posts- all other loads go to the top posts, along with a good engine block and body ground to the top post.

The Part Shown, 34-910S, will fit under the little Factroy Cap on the newer style trucks.

I do remember, however, some warning on the Optima Battery tech sheet that came with the battery not to hook up accessory loads to the side posts - Use the top posts for any heavy drain things like a Winch.

I couldn't find anything on http://www.optimabatteries.com site , but I think the limitation was 100 AMPS max continuous draw on the sideposts.

Wrangler also carries very nice Mil type battery terminals. http://www.wranglernw.com/commerce/ShowCategory.asp?CategoryID=126

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated nor am I related to anyone associated with WrnaglerNW. They are just a good company that has always provided good products to me at a reasonable price and good customer service. I have recommended them many times with no complaints from anyone so far.

: The battery on my '01 Sub is cranking a bit slower when the temp drops below freezing. Want to replace before it dies completely. I like the idea of using Optima sealed battery. Are you connecting with original side posts, or have you converted to top post? If side posts, are Optima's less prone to "bolt bottoming out" problem, or will I need to assemble the requisite "sandwich"? Any more current thoughts on the "top battery post lugs" from PremierPowerWelder?

: My cables are still in good shape, and would rather not replace at this point.
