99 k2500 brake job howto?

Hi all, I am about to do a rear brake pad replacement on my 99 k2500 turbodiesel. I've become a bit confused as to the procedures for removing the brake drum and servicing the linings.

The service manual says that vehicles with my GVWR (8600#) should have the duo-servo brakes not the leading/trailing brakes, but the servicing procedures seem to indicate that i have the leading/trailing brakes. The service guide for that type of brake seems to be insanely complex, requiring the removal of the axle shafts and the bearings before the drum will come off.

Is this really the correct way to service these brakes? I'll believe almost anything at this point, after the front brakes required removing the hub assemblies to get the stupid rotors off.

Thanks in advance,
-Dan
