clunking from the drive shaft or rear end of a 1994 suburban

I have a 1994 1500 Suburban that has been back to the dealer 4 or 5 times since it's purchase. The problem is always the same, when the vehicle is braking and comes to a complete stop the forward momentum momentarily shifts backwards and it is at that time that either the drive shaft or the rear end makes a clunking noise. It doesn't necessarily happen every time.
The dealer has offered various explainations such as;
hardened grease in the drive shaft, defective universal joints, broken or cracked motor mounts.
