I purchased a 1970 Ford in 1987, it had a noisy lifter. A friend recommended Marvel Mystery Oil, he said use one-half of the smaller can. The lifter quieted down. I have put well over 100,000 miles on that car and as long as I add the Mystery Oil, I don't hear that lifter. If I forget it, the lifter gets quite noisy. I have never even removed the valve covers and no problems related to oil.
As a professional mechanic I do not recommend any oil additives, but the Mystery Oil seems to quiet that lifter. I don't put it in any of my other cars but it keeps that lifter quiet.
