We've all seen the behemoth on the road, well yesterday I drove one-an '00 4X4. It was a free upgrade to my rental car because Hertz made a small error in my reservation in Albuquerque. As it turned out, it was no upgrade-my "normal" rental is a fullsize 2 door sedan-I would have preferred the car (and I don't own any cars).
I have 99 & 90 'burbs, both 4X4. The 90 is a 3/4T ex-border patrol truck-stiff ride & bottom of the (trim) line. The 99 is a 1500.
That Excursion is a pile. I don't know what engine it had, but it was gutless, had a lousy ride & it was very uncomfortable. I'm 6'4" and this thing must have been designed for 5'10" & below. I couldn't get the power seat back far enough to get comfortable. It has very uncomfortable seats and as tall as I am, it was hard to see over the hood. Fortunately I only had to drive it about 30 miles.
In case anybody was still harboring any doubts-forget it-we all made the right decision.
