I've torn down axles that were treated this way, and all that was salvageable was the housing. All your company has done is stick the next buyer with a huge repair bill. Many of the readers here buy such trucks due to the expense.
Just because you can get away with it doesn't mean it is the right thing to do or makes sense for most drivers.
