: In the 80's today. Mine ('91 K1500 with rear air)cools OK when driving but hardly works and the compressor runs a short cycle at idle. When I start going it starts cooling. It should cool more.
: I have a set of gauges, does any one know the correct pressure I should have?

Set AC to HI with MAX fan no recirculate;
For R-12, Set it by evporator temp on the low pressure side. Use the R12 scale and fill until the theo evaporator temp is 40 degrees or so (37 pounds). Watch the high side only to make sure it isn't way too high. The condenser temp should (high side) read 150 - 200 degrees when done. Just going from memory on my old SSEi.
Found the AC manual I have an it says...
'86 - '88 with orifice tube, low side 25 - 30, high side 150 - 200 lbs.
Low Side Gauge PSI: Temp Deg F:
26 - 27
28 - 29
30 - 32
35 - 36
40 - 42
