50,000 km (30,000 miles), just under two years since new off dealer's lot. Still under original factory warranty. No electrical mods.
Wife (sweetie!) was picking up kids at school this week and the sub wouldn't start. She said starter would turn over but not enough juice to fire the engine. Who knows what the voltmeter was showing beforehand.
Sweetie calls GM Roadside Assistance and the guy jump starts truck. Told sweetie that he had to fiddle with the wires and she should take it to nearest dealer. She does so and dealer replaces battery under warranty. The service manager tells me the electrical system otherwise checks out fine, battery had a dead cell. Claims it is just a defective battery.
I'll investigate further this weekend. From what I've read on #1 Son's board, these are things I should do:
1. Remove and clean battery wires with baking soda and tooth brush.
2. Cut back plastic insulation on positive battery cable.
3. apply battery cable goop to connections.
4. replace lead spacer with brass washers.
Am I missing anything? Should any other part of the electrical system be inspected before warranty runs out? Is anything else likely to have been damaged? What do you think caused the premature battery failure?
Thanks in advance guys.
