I have a 1999 Suburban 1/2 ton. I too noticed that the brakes seem "soft" and it takes alot longer to stop than other vehicles. My question to anyone out there is if they have ever experienced a total breakdown of the brake system? I had to take my suburban in this week because the brakes were very touchy and I could come to a stop without even applying the brakes. I was told that the entire abs brake system had been contaminated by some other substance that was put into the master cylinder that mixed with the brake fluid. They say that all the rubber parts throughout the system needs to be replaced because whatever was put in there ate it all up. I also will need new parts througout the system. This will cost me apporox. $2,000 and they say it is not covered by the warranty. Now I know we didn't put anything foreign into it so it had to be the dealership. Does anyone know of a similar case and how it was resolved? I sure would appreciate any answer someone might have.
