Heres an old post, but thought for all the Dads out there......
Had the oil changed in the beast today. Thought I would share the experience, perhaps you might benefit from what I learned.
9:16AM- arrived at local Mobil station and waited.
9:27AM- Smiling attendant Marco, wrote service ticket, explained different oils available. Interrupted Smiling attendant Marco. Explained I only wanted the oil Dave B, aka Traveler, uses. Attendant was not familiar with Dave B, aka - Traveler. Showed attendant posts from this board. Smiling attendant Marco said Mobil 1 oil change with lube would be $62.90.
9:34AM- Gave Smiling attendant Marco the approval. I said, “OK Marco, proceed!!!”
9:40AM- Smiling attendant Marco presented service ticket for my approval. I immediately approved.
9:52AM- Smiling attendant Marco instructed me to pull Burb into service bay. Completed this, no problems.
9:54AM- Grease Monkey Dick hoisted Burb on Sampson model 721 hydraulic lift. Everything went OK.
10:02AM- Grease Monkey Dick, removed drain bolt from oil pan using Snap-On forged steel wrench. Old oil flowed into EPA approved container. Fluid drained, looked brown and oily.
10:09AM- using only his bare hands, Grease Monkey Dick removed AC model PF-52 from the beast. Small amount of oil leaked on to Grease Monkey Dick’s bare hands.
10:10AM- Grease Monkey Dick shows me his burnt bare hands. I smile.
10:11AM- Grease Monkey Dick shows burnt hands to smiling attendant Marco. Smiling attendant Marco also smiles.
10:20AM- Grease Monkey Dick pours ¾ (.75) qt. of Mobil 1 10-30 into new, unknown brand oil filter. Explains that this method is better for initial start up. I smile.
10:29AM- Grease Monkey Dick lowers the beast and lifts hood.
10:33AM- Grease Monkey Dick pours six and ¼ (.25) qt. Of Mobil 1 10-30 into valve cover opening.
10:39AM- Grease Monkey Dick cleans up six qt. Of Mobil 1 10-30 from floor due to not re-installing drain plug. Grease Monkey Dick looks a little embarrassed. I smile.
10:58AM- Grease Monkey Dick hoists beast back onto Sampson model 721 hydraulic lift. Forgets to lower hood. Hood contacts steel compressed air pipe, causing loud scraping noise. I observe small dent on hood and scratches where Forrest Green paint used to be. Grease Monkey Dick smiles.
11:00AM- Grease Monkey lowers beast on Sampson model 721, then lowers hood. I inspect hood, Grease Monkey Dick smiles.
11:03AM- Grease Monkey Dick installs drain plug onto oil pan using Snap-On forged steel wrench.
11:05AM- Grease Monkey Dick lowers the beast and lifts hood.
11:08AM- Grease Monkey Dick pours six and ¼ (.25) qt. Of Mobil 1 10-30 into valve cover opening.
11:19AM- Grease Monkey Dick answers phone call, looks upset, no longer smiles.
11:22AM- Grease Monkey Dick starts engine, everything appears OK.
11:30AM- Service Manager Dan presents bill for payment, explains station not responsible for damage, shows me fine print on service ticket. Says he will not charge for oil on the floor.
11:38AM- I leave knowing that motor is well protected. Hood looks like crap!
12:16AM- Receive body shop estimate $216.32 for repairs
12:19AM- Total cost for oil change with Mobil 1 10-30 calculated. Total $279.22 I feel good, I smile, I’m protected! I feel good to have taken Dave B’s, aka Traveler, advice.
Hope this is of help,
Thank you for your interest and posting to the board.
