Power Vision Mirrors (long)

I recently ordered a set of Power Vision mirrors from Camping World through their catalog for $386/pr with $1 shipping. The Power Vision mirrors for my ’97 K2500 are a direct replacement for the stock power mirrors. They use the existing 4-way power adjustment switch to provide up/down, left/right adjustments and include an additional 2-way switch for the power extend/retract function of the mirrors.

The mirrors have a significantly larger viewing area than the stock power mirrors and seem much brighter. They retract close to the vehicle for non-towing use, or extend outward six inches for towing. However, even when fully retracted the new mirrors stick out several inches farther than the stock mirrors. This took some getting used to when pulling in or backing out of my garage. The RH side mirror is flat, not convex like the stock mirror. I love/hate this difference. The original mirror always distorted the distance of objects in the mirror (hence the mfgrs caveat of “objects in mirror are closer than they appear”) but provided a wider viewing area. In order to compensate for the narrower viewing area I find myself looking back over my right shoulder more during lane changes.

After towing with these mirrors, a line from the song "Amazing Grace" comes to mind: "I once was blind but now I see." I have tried 3 or 4 different clamp on type mirrors but the vibration was so bad it was difficult to see anything in the mirrors. While there is some vibration with the Power Vision mirrors, it is minimal and only on the roughest roads. Most of the time I had a stable and clear view to the rear on both sides of my trailer.

In my opinion, the ability to use the power adjustments to adjust the mirrors on-the-fly and the very stable, clear image make these mirrors clearly superior to any clamp on type mirror available. Granted, they are expensive but I feel they're worth it.
