In SLC the best shop I can find is Certified Auto. About 3400 So West Temple, 484-0121. (Been here 40 plus years.)
Believe it or not, PEP boys did a good A/C rebuild on a couple cars for my family.
Or, you can always do it your self by installing a rebuilt NAPA unit, renting guages a vac pump and using the pump over night after you get everything buttoned up.
R-12 can be bought on eBay, you'll need some of the A/C oil for R-12, again see eBay. Put the oil in before you start the engine, in fact, after useing the vac pump, you can probably add most of the freon before you start the engine.
Here are some web sits to check out.

: I need a new AC compressor before the original one pukes its guts into my system. Where is the best kind of place to take my Burban for such service? (Salt Lake City area) Are new compressors available? Are rebuilt ones okay? I have R-12, so it's gonna be expensive to replace. Is there a method to remove my perfectly good coolant and re-install it in my system? I'm not interested in converting to R-134, as it doesn't work nearly as well as R-12.
: Any and all advice welcome. My compressor made it through last summer being noisy, but I don't want to chance it this year.
