Looks like I'll get time tomorrow. Have the Syn-power fluid (PS).
I want to make sure I have this right so straighten me out before I mess this up!
I am going to pull the hose that runs from the booster (behind the master cylinder) to the PS pump. This is the line that has a short flexible hose on either end with a hose clamp? This should be pulled at the PS pump (by GM shop manual). If this is the correct hose can it be pulled at the booster and a hose run from the booster outlet to a collection pan? In any case remaining opening needs to be plugged.
I'll nominate a helper to top up the PS pump reservoir while I start the motor a slowly work the steering back and forth while not remaining at full steering stops. I'll stop when the fluid runs clean and reconnect hoses. I will then verify fluid level and start vehicle again and let run for a minute and recheck level. This is supposed to be repeated until level is stable. Then I re-start engine and turn steering wheel 180 to 360 degrees in each direction 5 times and recheck fluid levels.
All of this can be done with the tires on a stack of newspaper or other slippery surface.
That's the plan. The manual also calls for pressure (actually vacuum) leak down test which I am not planning on doing at this point.
I have found (when I am involved) that it is always best to consult before I mess something up! Any pointers or corrections would be greatly appreciated!
