Has anyone experienced the following and if so any suggestions on how to correct. ('99, K2500, 454, 17K miles)
Recently (July time frame) brought truck in to dealer where I purchased it to check on brake pulling and a few other items.
Dealer claimed rotors were warped & replaced them.
About 2 weeks ago when applying brakes I heard a distinctive thump, thump as truck was coming to stop - more pronounced longer truck is driven.
Yesterday I took truck to a different GMC dealer (was not happy with original dealer due to several other repairs not done properly first time around). The second dealer is strictly a truck dealer/repair - Heavy duty & light duty trucks only no cars. They went for a test drive with me and claimed there was nothing they could do to eliminate noise - stated it was inherent to the pads & rotor heat build up. His only suggestion was to take truck back to original dealer & have them check the lateral playout on the rotors as that might be causing the problem. If the lateral playout was okay then i will just have to live with the thumping noise. (he recommended original dealer because he knew GMC would not reimburse him for repairing warranty work done by different dealer). He was honest enough, so I think, to tell me that he could hide the noise but it would just come back in 5k-10k miles.
Does the heat explanation make sense?
Any fixes/repairs anyone can suggestion to eliminate the thumping noise would be appreciated as I do not look forward to hearing a thumping noise whenever braking.
TIA - Joe
