I recently bought a 97 K1500 with ~70K miles. Had a mechanic check it out before purchasing and was told that front and rear brakes were both recently serviced. The problem is that several hundred miles later, the brakes are squealin' like a pig during slow stops. The wife can't take it anymore so I contacted my mechanic for some advice and was told that it is not a problem (other than the nuisance factor) since many brands/compositions of pads do so even when new.
I've read much of #1's site, but am not sure how to proceed other than ask my wife to endure it for another 10-15K miles. Can I buy backing shims or some other product to reduce the noise? I'm a "newbie" with brakes but am willing to jump if it's something I may be able to affect.
Thx in advance,
Jim
