Load range E tires don't have to run at the max listed pressure. They can be run at lower pressures as long as the pressure is above the door sticker.
The ride quaility really won't be much different than a lower load rating tire.
I'd even say the E's woule out last any C or D rated tire. Note even in the same class with "P" rated tires, even though they may have same poundage rating.
They would be safer in a vehicle that can carry an additional 2,000lbs "inside" of it.
