97 GMC Sub 2WD-Tire Changes

Hello to all. Looks like a great post, so I'll ask for your input! Just bought a 97 GMC Sub 2WD, 350, currently with 15x8 American Racing Outlaws (no openings) and 30x9.5's. Basically, I want the look of the stock 4WD without all the nightmare problems (too much to ask I know!!). I have been told I can go to 31's no problem. I am already sold on the Michelin LTX M/S, just need to decide on a size.

But on a recent trip to the local mountains, I noticed how HOT the front brakes got driving down the steep hills. SO, I will entertain the change to a 16x8 to vent the front brakes (you guys scare the hell out of me about front brake wear).

Going to a larger tire, I don't really look forward to: lower gas mileage, erroneous speedo, more wear, etc. The current tires (wheels??) give a pretty strong vibration at 65-70 mph. All the lifts seem to have a lot of detractors to them, and nothing out there seems to just level out the look.

BTW, 95% of driving is on highway, with the rest campground type travel. Great truck, wonderful having 3 growing boys and all the junk. Just want to dial it in with an OEM flare, Cord running boards, Flowmaster and a few other wishes. Thanks in advance for all of the feedback!
