How critical are 'hub-centered' wheels?

When I purchased my '99 K2500 (used, 20k miles) it sported Centerline Billet Prowler wheels (16x8) and Goodyear Wrangler tires (LT305/70). Shortly after purchase I put the stock wheels & tires back on to get dealer to address vibration / shimmy issues under warranty. (Problems were present with both sets of wheels.) Anyway, now that the Steeltex tires have 45k miles on them, I'd like to get a little bigger tire (265's, not the Wranglers which I still have in the garage) and would like to use the Centerline Billets again as they look great and would be a better match for a wider tire. The wheels are rated at 3,000 lbs. so they seem up to the task, however, they are NOT hub-centered like the stock steel ones. Will this cause problems? What kind? Are others running wheels that are not hub-centered?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
John
