2001 sub with a Service engine soon light

I have a 2001 8.1L LT SUB 2500 2wd.

I had a SES light come on and the dealer told me i need a catalytic converter and an O2 sensor. (factory warranty)

it has taken two weeks so far to get the parts.

anyone out there with a problem like this one?

i thought it was just going to be a gas cap thing.... any ideas? is this common?
