Hi Folks. Hope you can answer a few questions on the used '99 K1500 sub (auto transfer case) I bought not long ago. Please excuse my ignorance, but this is my first 4X4 and am not keen on the extra maintenance required.
1. Does the transfer case use the same fluid as the Transmission? Or does the trans and T-Case use seperate fluids?
I recently inquired at my local dealer about changing out the trans fluid and trans filter. The dealer said that the auto trans & T-Case are one unit, and changing the auto trans fluid also changes the T-case fluid. Is this right? Reading from other posts, I thought the T-Case used a special blue fluid?
2. I am aware that a nickel plated slip yoke is being developed to solve the "bump" experienced by most sub owners. However in the meantime, I understand that this problem can be temporarily solved by lubing the slpines of slip yoke.
How is this done? Does the driveshaft have to be removed from the T-Case? If so, is it first required to drain the T-Case? But now this goes back to my first question, if draining that, does it affect my trans fluid?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I can at least save face by asking them on the net.
