I have a 2001 1500 LT and just looked at the filters. It's not hard but GM didn't make it easy either.
There is a large black plastic piece that runs along the footwell to the center console. You have to remove at least the 2 screws that are on the right side and pull it down. Next, about in the middle of the passenger footwell, along the duct now exposed, you will find a access plate about 1 inch wide with a foam gasket. There is a screw of some unusual size (it didn't fit any English or Metric socket I had and must be something about 2.5 mm.) up towards the firewall. Remove this and the access plate will drop down.
Inside there are 2 filters. The first one is easy to see, but the second is half hidden in the same hole closer to the firewall.
