I'm working for the oil company here in Saudi Arabia. We take our 95 Suburban K2500 in the desert on camping trips. We have found that the less aggressive the tread the better they do in the soft sand (they float instead of dig in). The Michelins do well, since when you "air down" to get better sand traction, they have more durable sidewalls. I run Yokohama Geolander AT's and they do fine, but I think I'll switch to the Michelin M/S next time. For serious sand driving for our company trucks (mosly Suburbans), we use a Sumitomo Shaheen "sand service" tire. They look like airplane tires and are the best in the sand but terrible in the rain and have very soft (and vunerable) sidewalls. Always a trade off! Good Luck
