I finally got around to checking the wiring and power being supplied to my power rear windows on my '96 K1500. It appears that all switches work and power gets to the window drive motor. Looking at the setup, it appears that the motor and window gear are mounted onto the frame of the door with rivets. I have a couple of questions:
1. Can the motor only be replaced? Does GM have just the motor or does it come attached to the window gear?
2. How hard is it to replace whatever needs to be replaced, given that I don't have any specialty tools?
3. How long does it take?
4. Is there any special things to watch for doing the job?
5. Would it be better to go to GM and pay them $250 per window to fix?
Or would it just be better to leave them alone and not bother? Now that the weather is getting nice here in Phoenix (85F today!), I'd like to have those windows down while driving...
