: : Can I buy a diagnostic computer to plug into my 91' suburban? I would like to see how each of the sensors are performing while the truck is running. ?
: : How much might they cost?
: I bought an Actron ScanTool ($259) for my '88 C1500 and '92 Suburban.
: It will:
: o Read / Erase Codes
: o Give Word description of the Code
: o Read Real-time data directly from the car computer as you idle and run down the road
: o Record 13 to 39 seconds of data as you drive. This includes 5 seconds of data before you trigger the record to start. You may trigger a record manually, or it will begin recording data when it receives an error code.
: For instance, you have an intermittent problem. Set up the unit ready to record. As you drive down the road, when the problem recurs, you start the recording. You will have 5 seconds of data before the problem, and 8 - 35 seconds of data after the problem.
: You will also need a module for your car. The module for your car covers GM 1984? - 1995, and costs $129. The module for 1996 and after is for ODBII and covers all domestic (Ford, GM, Chrysler) cars, since the diagnostics protocol for those were standardized in that year (and since thereafter).
: The root website is www.actron.com. If the link below works, it is for the scan tool itself.
